The Attenborough 100
Tattenhall Park Primary Celebrates Sir David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday with ‘Attenborough 100’ Environmental Challenge
On the 8th May, 2026, Tattenhall Park Primary School marked the 100th birthday of national treasure and environmental champion Sir David Attenborough with the launch of a special new initiative: the Tattenhall Park Primary Attenborough 100.
Pupils from across the school worked together over the Spring term to create a list of 100 simple actions that children and families could take to help protect the planet. Throughout the summer and beyond, children will be encouraged to complete as many of the 100 ideas as possible. Activities include planting flowers, creating wildlife habitats, litter picking, repairing clothes, reducing waste and spending more time outdoors enjoying nature.
To celebrate the launch, on 8th May, all the pupils and staff came together wearing specially designed green T-shirts to form the number 100 on the school playground in honour of Sir David’s milestone birthday.
The project has been championed by local councillor Mike Jones, who supported the school to create a bespoke ‘Attenborough 100’ T-shirt for every child in the school. The T-shirt features the ‘Attenborough 100’ logo on the front, alongside three of Sir David Attenborough’s favourite animals — and one of his least favourite - the rat. Printed on the back is the school’s eco-code:
“Small actions make big differences.”
As a special surprise, we have sent one of the T-shirts to Sir David Attenborough himself. We have also named our new bottle top giraffe, 'Sir David' !
Pupils have been encouraged to wear their T-shirts outside of school to help spread the Attenborough 100 message within the local community. They will also share photographs of themselves completing some of the challenges, whether that’s planting in the garden, building bug hotels, litter picking, mending clothes or exploring the outdoors.
Sir David Attenborough has inspired generations to care for our planet.
This project empowers our children to take practical steps that can make a real difference. The Attenborough 100 project shows that even the smallest actions, when taken together, can have a huge impact.
Tattenhall Park Primary hopes the initiative will inspire pupils and their families to continue making environmentally friendly choices long after the celebrations have ended.
Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David Attenborough — and thank you for inspiring us all.
